Election Queries

What are the rules for ballot drop-off? Do you need an ID? Can you drop your ballot in your home mailbox? Are there maps to drop-off locations?

Locations will be made available 30 days before Election Day. There will be over 300 secure Drop Boxes throughout Los Angeles County. Postage will not be necessary when dropping off at designated Drop Boxes.

Rules for ballot drop-off: place your voted ballot card(s) inside the Official Return Envelope. Securely seal the Official Return Envelope. Sign and date the back of the Official Return Envelope. No identification is needed.

There will be maps once the locations have been announced.

How can we inform residents of their polling and drop-off places?

Once the ballot drop-off locations are announced, there will be maps released with their whereabouts. One way to inform your friends, family, and neighbors of these locations (especially if they don’t use or have access to the internet) is to print these maps out and drop them off to their houses with a plate of cookies (or any other food item)! That way, you’ll have successfully shared this information and they’ll have a tasty snack to munch on while looking it all over.

Will there be shuttles to drop-off places?

From the research we’ve done, it doesn’t appear that there will be shuttles to drop-off locations, however it has been stated that drop-off locations will be decided by proximity to public transportation, among other deciding factors.

Can I drop off my Vote by Mail Ballot at a Voting Center?

Yes! You can directly drop off your Vote by Mail ballot in person at any Voting Center. A list of Voting Centers will be released 30 days before Election Day

How can we reach voters in swing states and help encourage their vote?

Is Election Day the only day you can vote in person?

Voters will have 10 consecutive days and Election Day to vote in-person at ANY participating Vote Center in the County. Select Vote Centers will be available beginning Saturday, October 24. All Vote Centers will be available beginning Friday, October 30. Vote Centers will be open every day from 10 AM to 7 PM during the early voting period. On Election Day Vote Centers will be open from 7 AM to 8 PM.

How can we encourage people to vote whilst acknowledging the options are not what we fully need?

How can we inspire people to vote when they think they don’t need to in CA, or no longer trust the system?

Can organizing related to the election be a part of building community and social infrastructure that can be active beyond the election?

How can we maintain balanced mental health with all of the current events we face?

What safety protocols will be followed at Voting Centers?

Voters will wear facial coverings and gloves (coverings and gloves will be made available if needed). All surfaces and Ballot Marking Devices after each voter will be wiped and sanitized. Everyone will socially distance 6 feet. Election workers will be wearing protective gloves and masks.

What does mobilizing for change look like beyond voting?

It can look like a number of things, but getting involved with organizing in your community is a great place to start; whether it’s with your local tenants union, with your local Showing Up for Racial Justice branch, with your local Black Lives Matter branch, or with your place of worship, there is lots of work to be done!

Can you check to see if your ballot was received and counted?

After returning your voted ballot via Drop Box or by mail you can check your ballot to make sure it was received and tallied through the Vote by Mail Status Tool found here.
